Hill Country Getaway
Lakeway Resort and Spa provides relaxation, rejuvenation and recreation
By Elizabeth Anthony
Lakeway Resort and Spa is nestled in the Texas Hill Country just 30 minutes west of downtown Austin and along the shoreline of beautiful Lake Travis. The award-winning, AAA Four Diamond venue is the perfect location for a successful and invigorating meeting or family time to relax and rejuvenate.
With commanding views of the Texas Hill Country from the shores of Lake Travis, Lakeway Resort and Spa is an elegant destination with contemporary resort amenities. The resort features 175 guest rooms, including spacious 2- and 3-bedroom condominiums. Most rooms feature private balconies allowing guests to enjoy the gorgeous views of Lake Travis and the surrounding Texas Hill Country.
Lakeway Resort and Spa’s featured amenity is the beautiful San Saba Spa with a 24-hour fitness center. The Spa is the ideal retreat for re-energizing while on vacation, enjoying a romantic getaway or unwinding from daily stress. The spacious spa includes nine indoor treatment areas, separate men’s and women’s locker rooms each with a dry sauna, separate elegant men’s and women’s lounges with a private outdoor spa terrace, a couple’s massage room with shower and a spa boutique.
The 24-hour fitness center features strength training, cardiovascular stations and free weights. San Saba Spa offers a complimentary 8 a.m. yoga class every Saturday for hotel guests.
Lakeway Resort and Spa guests love its swimming complex featuring a pool and slide area especially for kids, heated whirlpool overlooking Lake Travis and the swim-up bar. All pools are located outdoors; select pools are heated during the fall and winter months.
THREE POOL COMPLEX (Heated)
The Sunset Pool is the resort’s three-tiered infinity edge pool that cascades toward and overlooks Lake Travis. One of the tiers has a swim-up bar. Five U-shaped areas along one side of the pool let guests sit in the water with friends and enjoy a drink, the cool water and the view. The large kid-friendly pool features wading area, water features and a looping water slide.
The whirlpool with its constant 103-degree temperature is the place to soak a tired body, enjoy a refreshing drink, socialize with friends or meet new ones, and enjoy the view of Lake Travis.
Plenty of comfortable lounge chairs and umbrellas surround the pool. For more privacy or shade, consider renting a cabana by the pool that includes cushioned lounges, ceiling fan, TV, fruit plate, chilled bottled water and WiFi access.
The Kid Zone is one reason why Lakeway Resort and Spa is unlike any other Texas Hill Country resort. It provides a variety of fun kids’ activities, including movies, games, toys, books and arts and crafts. The large inflatable bounce houses with an obstacle course and dual slide are a big hit. A ping pong and pool table, air hockey and pinball machine and a basketball arcade round out the fun options.
Four championship Golf Courses offer the golfer a variety of challenges.
Rolling fairways take the game past limestone outcroppings, serene water features and picturesque vistas. The front nine is characterized by elevated tee boxes that seem to carry the shot on forever. The back nine is slightly lower in elevation and more secluded with strategically placed water features.
The Live Oak Course derives its name from the trees that frame its meandering fairways and shade its tees and ample greens. But no sand here; this course is void of sand traps and bunkers.
This gem is the area’s first collaborative design by Jack Nicklaus and Jack “Jackie” Nicklaus II. Opened in 2002, Flintrock Falls is recognized as one of their classic efforts. The signature Waterfall hole #11 is already giving The Hills hole #7 a run for its money as most beautiful hole in the state.
Designed to fit carefully into the gently rolling terrain of the Texas Hill Country, Falconhead can be enjoyed by golfers of all skill levels and features four to six sets of tees per hole so the player can select the appropriate challenge that fits their game.
A full-service marina is adjacent to Lakeway Resort and Spa. It features a wide range of facilities and water recreation activities, including private charter yachts for groups, seasonal public sunset cruises, ski boats with or without drivers, pontoon and deck boats, wave runners and bass boats with or without fishing guides, and the Texas Sailing Academy.
