The fall social season launches like a rocket with back to back major events the very first weekend after Labor day. The white-tie Audrey Hepburn Society Ball for UNICEF, honoring Margaret Alkek Williams, is Friday, Sept. 6, followed the next evening by Renee Fleming celebrating the Houston Symphony’s 100th year of Opening Nights on Sept. 7. It’s going to be a huge centennial year for the Symphony so add one or more concerts to your calendar!

Benefiting Ada

Houston Texans offensive tackle Duane Brown traded team colors for summer whites to host a fun and stylish evening at Eddie V’s, benefiting the American Diabetes Association. Brown drew a fashionable crowd of teammates, friends and fans in support of diabetes awareness. Since the theme was White Hot Summer Nights |“White Party,” guests didn’t have to puzzle over the dress code!

Gala Kickoff Party
The Blue Bird Circle

The Blue Bird Circle cares about kids, and you can help them in their mission to bring the latest therapies to children with devastating neurological diseases. The 2013 Gala “Mark of Distinction” is set for Friday, October 18, and a kickoff party was held to celebrate the Blue Bird Circle’s 90 years of service, including the Clinic for Pediatric Neurology and Clinical Research Center at Texas Children’s Hospital. Rhonda Jones and Jan Rhodes are chairing the evening honoring Dr. Mark W. Kline of Texas Children’s Hospital.

High Altitude Texans
The Nature Conservancy

More than 70 guests from Houston and other Texas cities gathered at Denise Monteleone’s gorgeous mountaintop home in Aspen to learn about The Nature Conservancy’s new urban conservation initiative which launches later this year. Many of the guests have homes in the popular resort town, and others were just visiting, but they all have one thing in common – a deep concern and commitment to conserving Nature’s gifts.

4) TNC committee members Dick and Susan Hansen with hostess Denise Monteleone at her beautiful home overlooking Aspen.

5) Jana Arnoldy joined Texas supporters at The Nature Conservancy event.

A short and sassy “Stiletto Strut” to stop breast cancer in its tracks headlines our Out and About section this month, along with the St. Luke’s “Summer Speaker Series,” The KCEF Foundation Gala, Houston Young Professionals and the Holly Rose Benefit Dinner.

2) Polly Bowden, with Dr. Peg Van Bree, at the 3rd annual St. Luke’s Foundation “Summer Speaker Series” held in Aspen at the Bowdens’ spectacular mountain home. More than 100 Houstonians heard an update from Dr. Daniel Yoshor, Chief of Neurosurgery at St. Luke’s.

3) Kristin Massey joins Cookie Michael, and Megan Grant, who is the 2012 KCEF Foundation Scholarship Recipient. The KCEF Foundation’s 15th Annual Charity Gala “Hollywood Nights” is Saturday, October 5 at The Bayou City Event Center.

4) Houston Young Professionals had a chance to meet some of their Mentors at a special event that included volunteers (l-r) Kent Schaffer, Pat Bertotti, Freddy Goerges and Patricia Herrera.

5) Shelby Kibodeaux, co- chair Jessica Rossman, sponsor Bruce Padilla and co-chair Kim Padgett at the Holly Rose Benefit Dinner. The evening drew 100 guests, raised $100,000 and was underwritten by Sam Governale of Fleming’s Prime Steak & Wine Bar.
