On The Town with Jan Carson March 2015

The social scene this month is dominated by the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo and the umpteen events that call for your best boots, snappy hat and sassy fringe. But there’s also a ton of other happenings that herald springtime in Houston – especially the annual Azalea Trail March 6-8 benefiting the River Oaks Garden Club. The bloom fest is a terrific chance to enjoy some of Houston’s most impressive gardens so be sure to get your tickets at 713-523-2483.

“A Night on the Nile”

CCFA Winter Ball

The scene was downright exotic as snake charmers and bare-chested Egyptian guards mixed with designer gowned honorees at the annual Winter Ball, benefiting the Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation of America. The 2015 KTRK Channel 13 Women of Distinction were presented in front of murals of pyramids and antiquities. They included “Queen of the Nile” Pat Breen, Ambassador Trini Mendenhall, and honorees Carol Beck, Suzan Deison, Lesha Elsenbrook, Gayla Gardner, Carol Linn, Kim Moody, Leisa Holland-Nelson, Susan Osterberg, Cynthia Petrello and Roberta Schwartz.

Announcement Party

Houston Chronicle’s Best Dressed Honorees

To be named a Houston Chronicle Best Dressed Honoree is to be recognized not only for community involvement, but also for exhibiting a unique sense of personal style while fulfilling those good deeds. This year’s 2015 Honorees clearly fit the bill as they were officially announced at a Neiman Marcus party staged, as always, in the Couture Department. Rosemary Schatzman chairs the Best Dressed Luncheon and Neiman Marcus Fashion Presentation on March 26 benefiting the March of Dimes.

The 2015 Social Book

Combine an international ambience with tasty treats, tantalizing tunes and glamorous honorees and the stage was set for another amazing Social Book launch party – this one celebrating the party calendar’s 20th anniversary.   Owners Scott Evans, Jeff Henry and Sami Shbeeb always make sure the Houston Treasures are in the spotlight and this year’s honorees included Rudy Avelar, Greggory and Pat Burk, Dr. O.H. “Bud” Frazier, Helen Shaffer and Paul-David Van Atta.
